Phil Maffetone is also an accomplished singer and musician. Musicland, USA – (October 2006). After a period of introspective revival, Phil Maffetone has surfaced once again, with songwriting and music therapy. Best known for his books and articles on nutrition and fitness, Phil brings a unique, often modal blend of pop, folk and rock to his songwriting and performances.

Phil has spent the past few years in LA, with stops in Nashville, London and other music centers, where he quickly learned about songwriting and recording from his work with some of music's greats, especially his one-on-one work with producer Rick Rubin. He’s spent time in the studio with the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash and many others, learning about making music.

His songs have been described as giving the feeling of sharing time with a comfortable friend. The “feel-good” effects can be lasting. The songs are not sad, not happy, but as he says, “they’re an essence of life, no more, no less.”

As a longtime health practitioner, and doctor for many athletes and musicians, Dr. Phil has measured the effects of his and other music on people’s brains. His songs strongly stimulate alpha waves, which are calming and significantly health-promoting. His first album is We All Need.
